I’ve been receiving a steady flow of emails with people offering to be my assistants or interns. The truth is, while I am in the field, there isn’t a whole lot of photographic assistance to do, and, I can manage to carry my own bags. However, I do need people whose skills can be useful in the countries that I travel to. If you are the right person, I will pay your expenses (accommodation, food, transportation) for the duration of our trip together and I will offer you whatever knowledge I can, in return for your help.
What I am looking for
The main things I am looking for are, knowledge of the local language or languages, as well as excellent communication and people skills. Familiarity with traditional communities and their cultures is a big bonus.
It is great if you are a local of the countries I’ll be traveling to, but, you do not need to be. You could be a volunteer, former or current, you could have grown up in the country, or, spent enough time there for whatever reason, to have learnt the language and have become familiar with it and its people.
Who this opportunity might be for
Those who want to travel in a way that is different to tourists.
Aspiring photographers who want to learn by being out in the field and seeing how travel photos are taken.
Aspiring travel writers or even established ones who want to pair up with a photographer and know the language and the area that I am working in.
What you can expect
An opportunity to learn about photography and life on the road from being out in the field with me. In our free time, you can ask any photography related questions that you want.
A chance to travel your country or the country that you are familiar with without having to pay the expenses.
Some amazing experiences and adventures along the way.
What you should not expect
This isn’t the best way to build your portfolio. When I photograph people, I do not want to have others photographing at the same time, this is distracting for me and overwhelming for the subjects. There might still be chances, but you should not base your desire to come on that.
This isn’t a holiday. At times we will really be roughing it out.
Below is a list of the countries that I am planning on visiting soon. With all of South America, except for Brazil, I do not so much need someone who speaks the language as someone who can possibly connect me with traditional communities or any fascinating topics.
Europe
Albania
Armenia
Azerbaijan
Bosnia
Bulgaria
Georgia
Italy (South)
Romania
Serbia
Turkey
South and Central America
I am planning a long trip to this part of the world, and though I speak Spanish, if you’re knowledgeable of local traditions, cultures or just fascinating topics, I’d love to talk.
Asia and Middle East
Iran
Jordan
Mongolia
Oman
Pakistan
Tajikistan
Turkmenistan
Africa
Virtually all of Africa, except for Mauritania. I already have a person there.
If your country or your country of expertise is not on the list, but, you feel it is absolutely amazing and a-must-visit, please CONTACT me and tell me why.
